"BLOOLIPS: LUST IN SPACE"

An English Music Hall Review

AT THE BOARDING HOUSE

North Beach, San Francisco, July - August, 1981

From “The Memoirs, Chapter Thirteen” -

So "The Box Lunch" settled in for a nice, long run in our little gallery in Soho, an began to enjoy New York.

Jeffery came in one night and said, Bill, you got to go see this show!  Seems he had been to an off-Broadway offering at the lower east side Orpheum Theater of a silly drag revue from England called “Bloolips: Lust in Space.”

So we all went and of course loved the show and went backstage and met the Bloolips and had a wonderful time and invited them to the Box Lunch.  So they came and loved our show and loved Maria and Jeffery and all and we started hanging out together and going out to bars after our respective shows in the evenings.

We soon invited them to San Francisco and would later that year book them into the Boarding House Theater on Broadway in North Beach where they had a very successful run and all of them even stayed in our apartment while they were in San Francisco and Russ and I moved into David’s house and we would have many adventures with them.

Our publicity department geared up to give them our all.  They had some nice photo portaits made by a guy named Steven Mark Needham, below.

We printed up a little flier for their Boarding House run.

And, of course, we convinced them they needed a float in the upcoming San Francisco Gay Parade.  They loved it!

They were a big hit at the Boarding House and even got held over for the whole month of August.  Congratulations, guys!
