TREVI, GLORIA
Singer, performer,
Monterrey, Nuevo León, born February 15, 1968
During the decade of the 1990's, Gloria Trevi was one of the most
popular teen singers in Mexico and sported torn stockings. She was
an inspiration to young girls throughout Latin America.
During a tour of Brazil, she and her manager, Sergio Andrade, were
accused of throwing wild parties for underaged girls. She was sent
to prison for corruption of minors.
While in prison, she became pregnant from a guard.
She named her baby Angel Gabriel. Nice.
After three years in the Brazil prison, she was sent back to Mexico to
face new charges. There she was absolved of all charges and set
free.
She recently announced the promotion of her new record and plans to make
the music video inside the state prison of Chihuahua, where she had
spent time. She hoped it would draw attention to the rights of
women prisoners. Good going, Gloria.

I
had first been turned on to Gloria Trevi by one of my favorite drag queens of
the group, Intrepidas, from Juchgitán down in the Ithsum of Tehuatepec.
In our show we did with them, "Felina," below, did a great lip-sinc of
Trevi's hottest records. Russell took these photos of Felina in
the big Teatro Alcalá in Oaxaca.
She always knocked 'em dead!
Lookin' good, Felina!
(NOTE: You can see a lot more of Felina in "Las
Intrepidas Vs. SIDA" on the TIME-LINE, 1997, and in "Those Darn
Intrepids" in RECENT WRITINGS.)
