ACUÑA, FRANCISCO RAMÍREZ
Minister of Security
of Mexico, 2006
Francisco Ramírez
Acuña was appointed by Felipe Calderon as head of interior security in
Mexico. He has vowed opposition will not be tolerated.
He was responsable for the
imprisonment of Flavio Sosa and Marcelino Coache on Dec 3, 2006.
As governor of the state of
Jalisco, he received over 640 complaints of torture at his instructions.
He earned the sobrequet, the "Torturer of Jalisco," throughout Mexico.
In political cartoons in
Mexico, his image is well-known. Below, "Where's this bastard
(pendeja) that you want taken care of?" "The Supreme Court.
I'll explain in a minute."
On May 14, Francisco Acuña met with Oaxaca governor
Ulises Ruiz to discuss the upcoming teachers' march scheduled for the
following day. He has been the strongest pupporter of Ulises in
the Calderón administration.

Then in December of 2007, came the good news that Francisco Acuña was
being replaced as head of SEGOB (Secretary of Government), with one Juan
Camilo Mouriño, who I'm sure brings his own baggage, but the national
Congress was said to be happy ("alegría") with the "absent" Acuña's
removal.
For the people of Oaxaca, it was noted that Acuña was the chief backer
of the hated Oaxaca governor Ulises Ruiz during the first two years of
the conflict. It was recently asked whether the arrival of Mouriño
means the "protection of Ulises has run out? (acabó)," below.
It is hoped.
